When we saw this unusual kind of rustic fence standard with an I beam profile and with only several dozen of them , randomly twisted and bent by their histories , we knew they would suit a bespoke sculpture job whenever that might come along .
So when Kim Hollows asked if we could make him a special presentation stand to lift up his 100 kg Pounamu rock as a Touchstone , these special standards have their turn to become sculpture .
The special design aspect of the presentation stand that could be achieved by using these already bent and twisted standards was that we should be able to do a strong stand that has no horizontal bracing , only vertical strands leaning and bumping into one another .
And so that’s what happened .
The unusual and rare standards found their final place resting beneath a terrestrial taonga , working easily to make the rock a fine touchstone .
